Yesterday, on January 7, President Trump signed this presidential memorandum pulling the US out of 66 international organizations. It’s a massive step back from all that global teamwork stuff, and it’s all about that “America First” vibe.

Basically, after a big review they did last year, the White House says these groups just aren’t worth it anymore—they’re wasteful, push agendas that don’t line up with US interests, or even threaten sovereignty. Out of the 66, 31 are straight-up UN-related, like the big climate ones: the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)—that’s the main treaty behind all the global climate talks—and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the top science crew on warming.
Also on the list: the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), which has been a target for conservatives over reproductive health stuff, UN Women, and a bunch dealing with labor, migration, and what they call “woke” diversity programs. Then there are 35 non-UN ones, like the International Renewable Energy Agency, the Global Counterterrorism Forum, and some random ones like the International Cotton Advisory Committee or the International Tropical Timber Organization.
Trump’s team is saying this saves taxpayer money and stops funding “globalist” or radical climate pushes that hurt the US economy. They’ve already bailed on the Paris Agreement again, the WHO, and others since he got back in office—this just takes it to another level.

But man, people are losing it on the other side. Climate experts are calling it a total disaster—Stanford’s Rob Jackson said it basically gives big polluters like China a free pass to slack off, and since the US is a huge emitter, it’ll make fighting warming way tougher. Groups like the NRDC say the US is now the first country ever to ditch the UNFCCC, which every other nation is still in. Former officials and enviros are saying it’s embarrassing, isolates America, and hands leadership to rivals on clean energy jobs and tech.
Supporters are pumped, though—finally ditching bloated bureaucracy and focusing on home.
The pullouts will happen gradually as funding stops and participation ends. Honestly, this is gonna shake up the world stage big time. Love it or hate it, Trump’s not messing around with going solo on a ton of issues. What do you think—smart move or too risky?
