Tamil Nadu just dropped the final voter list after that huge Special Intensive Revision (SIR) sweep, and man, it’s a real trim-down. The state now has exactly 5,67,07,380 voters on the rolls. That’s 5.67 crore people who can actually vote when the time comes.

CEO Archana Patnaik broke it all down in her Chennai press meet this afternoon. She said straight up: we’ve got 2,77,38,925 men, 2,89,60,838 women, and a handful—7,617—third-gender electors. Back before SIR started on October 27, 2025, the rolls were sitting at throughout 6.41 crore (6,41,14,587 exactly). Talking a drop of about 74 lakh names overall—some spots call it nearly 70 lakh, others pin it closer to 74 lakh or even 7.4 million straight. It’s roughly an 11.5% cut to make sure the list is clean and real.

First big wave: draft roll in December 2025 showed a massive plunge to about 5.43 crore after yanking 97.37 lakh entries—deaths, people who moved out, duplicates, ineligible folks, the works. In the Urban areas took the biggest hit.

Then the important part is the claims and objections window from December 19, 2025, to January 30, 2026. People jumped in: 27,53,796 new voters got added (tons of 18-19-year-olds via Form 6— around 12.51 lakh in that young brace overall). But 4.23 lakh more got removed as ineligible. So from the draft, the list actually bounced up by around 24 lakh net.

Patnaik mentioned a bunch of flagged cases—like 13 lakh with mapping issues (almost all kept except a couple thousand) and that crazy 1.58 crore logical discrepancies—mostly verified and stayed on. Goal was accuracy, not wiping people out unfairly.

Sholinganallur in the Chennai’s outskirts with above 5.36 lakh voters. Smallest is Harbour right in the central Chennai at around 1.17 lakh.

Bottom line from her: Check your name now! Jump on elections.tn.gov.in, the NVSP site, or swing by your district election office. If you’re not there, need a fix, or see something off, file Form 6 to add, Form 8 to correct, Form 7 to delete—online or offline, it’s still open for continuous updates.

It’s been a intense cleanup, some folks are grumbling about deletions maybe hitting too hard, but the Election Commission says this is the solid, trustworthy base Tamil Nadu needs heading into assembly polls. 5.67 crore verified voters
