President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu is currently on a special visit to Uttarakhand, a state that is celebrating a historic milestone—25 years of its formation. As Uttarakhand marks its Silver Jubilee events on the 9th of this month, a special session of the State Legislative Assembly was organized to honor the occasion. President Murmu addressed the legislators and the people of Uttarakhand with a deeply inspiring message that emphasized accountability, social upliftment, and visionary governance.

In her address, the President highlighted the significance of Legislative Assemblies in India’s democratic framework. She noted that the makers of the Indian Constitution entrusted these institutions with the critical responsibility of upholding democracy, ensuring transparency, and serving as strong instruments of public accountability. According to her, these houses of public representatives are not merely decision-making spaces but also pillars that safeguard the democratic aspirations of the people.
President Murmu urged all Members of the Legislative Assembly to rise above party lines and work wholeheartedly for the development of Uttarakhand. She emphasized that political leadership gains its true meaning only when it is rooted in service to the people—especially the marginalized, backward, and underprivileged groups. “An MLA is not just a legislator,” she said, “but a bridge between the government and its citizens.” Her message was clear: real leadership lies in compassion, responsibility, and dedication to public welfare.
A key highlight of her speech was her strong focus on empowering youth. She pointed out that Uttarakhand has a young population full of energy, ideas, and potential. To ensure a prosperous future, she stressed the importance of providing young people with opportunities in education, innovation, employment, and entrepreneurship. Investing in youth potential, she noted, is equal to investing in the future of the nation.

While reflecting on Uttarakhand’s 25-year journey, the President congratulated the state on its remarkable achievements. Formed in November 2000 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Uttarakhand has progressed significantly across sectors such as environment protection, renewable energy, tourism, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and digital initiatives. These advancements have contributed to notable improvements in the Human Development Index (HDI) of the state, placing Uttarakhand among the rapidly growing regions of India.
President Murmu also lauded the state’s commitment to women empowerment. She made special mention of Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, the first woman Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, and applauded the members of the Assembly for making this historic appointment. Furthermore, she praised the state leadership for taking bold steps in governance, including the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC)—a significant legal milestone aimed at ensuring gender equality and promoting social justice. In conclusion, the President’s visit and her thoughtful address brought a sense of pride and renewed inspiration to the people of Uttarakhand.

As the state looks toward the next decade and beyond, her message serves as a reminder that progress is not just measured in economic growth, but also in inclusive development, youth empowerment, women’s rights, and responsible governance. Uttarakhand, with its rich cultural heritage and strong spirit of resilience, now stands poised to enter a new chapter of development and prosperity—guided by the values of unity, responsibility, and people-centric leadership.
