Those scary forwards have been flooding every WhatsApp group and family chat since morning – “Lockdown is coming again”, “Schools and offices might shut”, “Fuel will finish soon”… and just like that, the old 2020 anxiety starts creeping back in. Hearts racing, people stocking up, everyone asking each other what to do next.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has come out and said it loud and clear – there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India. None at all.
He posted on X today: “Rumours of a lockdown in India are completely false. Let me state this clearly, there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India.” He also gently reminded us all to “remain calm, responsible, and united” in these times. And he called spreading such panic “irresponsible and harmful.” I think we all needed to hear that steady voice right now.
So why did these rumours even start? Because of the rising tensions in West Asia – the situation with Iran and others – people got worried about oil supplies, energy, and fuel prices. Some saw long queues at petrol pumps or heard about LPG cylinder shortages and immediately connected it to a full lockdown. But the government acted fast. They cut excise duties on petrol and diesel to ease the burden on ordinary families, and Puri ji assured that every possible step is being taken to keep fuel, energy, and essential supplies flowing without any break.
We’ve seen this pattern before, In uncertain times, one message, one voice note, and suddenly the whole country feels on edge. It happened during the pandemic too. That’s exactly why the minister’s words matter so much today – he’s asking us not to add to the fear but to stay level-headed and support each other instead.

As Indians, we’ve handled tough moments together many times. Right now, the smartest thing we can do is stop forwarding unverified stuff. Check official statements first – the minister’s own post, government updates, or trusted news. Talk to your family calmly and tell them the truth: no lockdown is planned. The Prime Minister is also closely watching energy security and meeting chief ministers on this.
India has always moved forward best when we stay united and clear-minded. Hardeep Singh Puri has already clarified it directly – no lockdown, no proposal.
