It’s looking like a total wipeout for the Mahayuti in today’s local body results. As I’m writing this (21 December 2025), the numbers are still coming in, but the alliance is already comfortably past the 200-mark in the 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats that went to polls. Seriously, the mood in the Mahayuti camp is just pure celebration right now.

Latest trends show BJP leading in around 127–130 seats, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena ahead in 53–60, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP sitting pretty with 32–36. That’s a combined lead of over 215 bodies already, and counting is still on. The Maha Vikas Aghadi? They’re way behind, barely touching 50 seats in some places, and even less in others. It’s a rough day for the opposition.
Eknath Shinde was on fire when he spoke to reporters. He straight-up called these results the “trailer” for what’s coming in the January civic polls. “People have given us a huge mandate,” he said. “BJP has hit a century, we’ve scored a half-century — this is the real Shiv Sena and the real people’s choice.” You could hear the confidence in his voice.

Devendra Fadnavis also came out and thanked the workers, saying the focus on development and good governance is what’s paying off. Nitin Gadkari dropped a tweet too, calling it a “resounding victory for progress.”
The MVA is trying to put up a fight in a few spots — places like parts of Pune, Sangli, and a couple of other pockets where Sharad Pawar’s NCP still has a strong grip. But overall, they’re just not matching the Mahayuti wave. Some Congress leaders are grumbling about the State Election Commission, saying the counting was slow or whatever, but honestly, the numbers are speaking loud and clear.
This is a big deal because it comes right after the assembly elections, and now the BMC polls are just around the corner on January 15. If today’s result is any indication, the Mahayuti is in a very strong position to sweep the big municipal corporations too.

So yeah, it’s looking like the ruling alliance is on a roll. Let’s see how the final tally shapes up by evening, but one thing’s for sure — the Mahayuti is on cloud nine today.
