Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Meerut yesterday, and he officially inaugurated the full 82-km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor—India’s first at any time Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). The complete thing is now live! He indicate off the Namo Bharat train from Shatabdi Nagar station, hopped on for a ride with UP CM Yogi Adityanath, chatted with passengers, students, and crew, and also launched the Meerut Metro, which they’re calling India’s fastest metro at speeds up to 120 km/h.

This is huge for us in the NCR. The Namo Bharat is designed for 180 km/h (running around 160 km/h in service), connecting spots like Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi straight to Modipuram in Meerut, via Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar—you name it.
Yesterday’s big push opened the last pieces: that quick 5-km bit in Delhi from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar, and the 21-km stretch in UP from Meerut South to Modipuram. Boom—full end-to-end now.
Delhi to Meerut in under an hour about approx 55 minutes— alternatively of the old 2-3 hours stuck in traffic or on slow trains. Air-conditioned coaches, solid safety tech, frequent services, and it ties in nicely with other transport.
Commuters, students rushing to Delhi colleges, office folks going back and forth, families—everyone’s commute just got way easier. Less road jam, cleaner air, more economic flow between Delhi and western UP, plus jobs from running this beast.
Modi called it the start of a new chapter for world-class infra in UP and the NCR—making everyday travel “simpler, smoother, and more convenient.” Services kicked off publicly around 6 PM after the event, and people are already sharing rides and excitement online.

The NCRTC pulled this off after years of phased openings, but today seals the deal. If you’re anywhere along this line—like me in Delhi— this could change weekends, workdays, everything. Gonna give it a spin soon? Feels like one of those moments where you actually see progress happening fast.
