Bageshwar Baba apologises over his Ram-Krishna remarks during a Ram Katha in Shivpuri after protests from saints and Yadav community members.

Bageshwar Baba is in the news again, and this time it’s over something he said during a Ram Katha in Karera, Shivpuri.

He was speaking and started comparing Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. In the video that’s floating around he says your Thakurji looks like he’s looking this side and that in every photo. Even when he stands he’s bent in three places — one leg over the other, waist tilted, neck bent while playing the flute. Then he says our Ram stands completely straight. Name is straight, looks straight, walks straight. Yours is crooked, looks crooked, walks crooked. He also said playing the flute is like a game but handling a bow is not so easy, and pointed to a guy who was actually playing flute on the stage.

That clip went everywhere. Saints from Mathura and Braj got angry. They said this kind of comparison is not right and it hurts Krishna’s devotees. Some of them asked him to say sorry publicly. In Gwalior the Yadav community people even went to the police and gave a written complaint.

Baba has now apologised. He said Ram and Krishna are the same for him and he never wanted to hurt anyone. If my words hurt anyone’s feelings then I say sorry, he told. He also said nobody loves Krishna more than he does. Later he joked that these days if you want to become famous just start opposing Bageshwar Baba.

This is not the first time his words have created a mess. Earlier also there was that whole thing in Bengal about non-veg food during Durga Puja. His way of speaking is very open and people like it, but sometimes it lands differently.

Right now people are still arguing on the video. Some say it was just casual talk in a Ram Katha. Others feel he should have been more careful. Politicians have also started speaking — Digvijaya Singh called it foolish and a few others made strong comments.
