Right now, the big noise is that Congress bigwigs in Delhi are gently pushing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to make way. They’re offering him a Rajya Sabha seat from Karnataka plus some fancy national role so his deputy, DK Shivakumar – DKS to all of us – can finally become the CM. It’s like one of those family talks where the elders say, “Beta, it’s time to hand over.

Siddaramaiah is 78, a real fighter who’s seen it all – from socialist days to leading Congress back to power in 2023. Those five guarantees? Man, they actually touched people’s lives – free buses for women, help with bills, all that. He just became the longest-serving CM in Karnataka’s history not long ago, and you could feel his pride. But now, after three years, the high command seems ready for a change. DKS has been waiting, organizing, keeping the party machine running. He’s got that energy, that Vokkaliga backing, and he’s played the patient card beautifully.

From what sources are saying after today’s long meetings in Delhi – Siddaramaiah and DKS both flew there, met Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Venugopal, the whole lot – the offer is clear. Step down gracefully, get a Rajya Sabha berth, become some big OBC face for the party nationally, especially looking at 2029 elections. Maybe even fix something for his son Yathindra in the cabinet. Sounds familiar, right? Like what happened with Nitish in Bihar recently. A respectable exit upstairs.

It’s not easy after giving your everything – health ups and downs, fighting opposition, delivering schemes that actually mattered to the poor. Delhi might sound grand, but leaving the ground where you made real changes? That stings. His close people say he’s not jumping at it. On the other side, DKS has been cool publicly. “Patience will also pay,” he said once. Today they showed unity – breakfast together, all smiles for cameras. But behind closed doors? Negotiations are on.

Caste is the elephant in the room, Siddaramaiah’s strength is with backward classes, Dalits, minorities – that AHINDA formula. DKS brings solid Vokkaliga muscle and organizational grip. The party has to balance without alienating anyone, or some MLAs might rebel. BJP is already rubbing hands, calling it total chaos and horse-trading. “Look at Congress fighting internally,” they’re saying.

On the streets, people have mixed feelings. Can imagine my Bengaluru cab driver friend saying, “Siddaramaiah delivered. Will DKS keep the guarantees going?” Others want fresh blood for big projects and industry push. Congress is officially denying everything – “Only talked about Rajya Sabha elections on June 18 and council polls,” says Venugopal and Surjewala. But we all know how these things work. When top leaders sit for hours, it’s rarely just that.

If it happens, we might see a resignation soon, DKS sworn in, some cabinet shuffle. It could be smooth and set a good example. Or messy if Siddaramaiah holds firm on the full five-year mandate. He’s done that before. Karnataka is Congress’s big success story after tough times. They don’t want to mess it up before 2028 polls.

No one is permanent in this game. Siddaramaiah has fought hard battles. A national role lets him guide from Delhi on bigger issues like caste census, backward classes. DKS gets his shot after years of hard work. But the real question is – will the common Kannadiga still feel the welfare touch? Farmers, women, youth – they care about that more than who sits in Vidhana Soudha.

These stories always make me think. Should old experience step aside for new energy? Or is wisdom from age irreplaceable? Both have their place. Karnataka will figure it out soon. There might be more twists – maybe they delay to keep peace till polls.
