With the political tension building up in Bihar Assembly Election 2025, very famous folk singer Maithili Thakur joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Patna. Senior party leaders, along with Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal, were present during the ceremony, which took place on October 14.

Popular for her melodious songs of Maithili, Bhojpuri, and devotional songs, Maithili Thakur has a huge fan base in Bihar and outside. Her decision to join politics has created a happy air among her fans. Talking to the media, she said her step was not political but compelled by her willingness to “serve the society” and work towards the progress of Bihar.
As per media reports , Thakur will fight the election from the Alinagar seat in the Darbhanga district, an area that is deeply connected with her cultural heritage and popularity. She is considered a move by BJP to bring in youth voters.
Political analysts believe that Maithili can influence youth and women voters, and could give BJP an emotional and cultural edge. Her image as a grounded and traditional artist makes her more famous in Bihar.

The two-phased Bihar Assembly elections are set to take place on November 6 and November 11, 2025, with the count on November 14. As campaigning picks up steam, Thakur’s induction brings a welcome touch of novelty to the political orchestra of Bihar
