
The newly elected Vice President of India, Shri Chandrapur am Monosemy Radhakrishnan took his oath as the 15th Vice President of India on September 12, 2025. The oath ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan marking the beginning of a new chapter. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and President of India, Draupadi Murmu. C.P. Radhakrishnan pledged to uphold his position and the Constitution of India and provide unparalleled service to the nation.
The oath ceremony
After stepping down from the post of Governor of Maharashtra, C.P. Radhakrishnan undertook the oath ceremony as the Vice President of India. Adorned in a red kurta, he took the oath infront of the political leaders of nation. Fromer vice president, Jag deep Dhankar also made his first public appearance after his resignation from the post of Vice President.
CP. Radhakrishnan was elected as the new Vice President of India after winning the Electoral college elections by 452 votes against his opponent, former supreme court judge, Sudershan Reddy. The mid term election was held after the sudden resignation of former Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankar due to health issues.
The ceremony was attended by important political leaders of India. The ceremony highlighted the powerful display of India’s democratic values. It presented the transfer of position and responsibilities to a new yet experienced leader.
From governor to Vice President
C.P. Radhakrishnan is a veteran in Indian politics. His path to this esteemed position is one of determination and loyalty. He is from Tamil Nadu and joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) decades ago to start his public service and political career. He raised through the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ranks as a result of his dedication and hard work.

The difficulties of governance are nothing new to him. In addition to holding the vital position of state president for the BJP in Tamil Nadu, he was a two-term member of parliament from Coimbatore. As the governor of Jharkhand and then Maharashtra more recently, he acquired important and needed administrative experience.
The role of Vice President of India
The Vice President of India has the following responsibilities
- Second-Highest constitutional authority: The Vice President of India steps in as the acting President if the sitting President is unable to perform his/her duties due to uncertain reasons such as illness or any other reason.
- Chairman of Rajya Sabha: the most important and active duty of the Vice President of India is serving as the chairman of the upper house (Rajya Sabha) parliament. He needs to maintain the decorum of the house and make sure that both the opposition and the ruling party have a voice to put out their opinions in front of the leaders. The role requires the Vice President to be patient and impartial in the Rajya Sabha hearing and he must have a deep understanding of the Constitution of India.

Looking Ahead
As the new Vice President of India takes his position, the expectations of the people of the nations are high. He must ensure the smooth functioning of the Rajya Sabha. He must protect the rights of all members of Parliament (even of the opposition or the minority parties), he must be dignified and uphold the values of constitution of India. The veteran in the politics field, C.P. Radhakrishnan makes him fit as the ideal Vice President. He will be serving a term of five-years no matter if he is elected in a mid-term election. The nation wishes him a successful journey towards serving the nation.
