
On 7th of September 2025, a devastating and heart-wrenching incident took place in the city of dreams, Mumbai, Maharashtra. A huge fire broke out in a 24 storey building in New Janakalyan Society, Dahlias’, North Mumbai. The fire busted around 3:00 pm causing 19 injuries and 1 death. According to the reports, the 36 residents were rescued and the injured ones were sent to 4 different hospitals. Sadly, one woman succumbed to her injuries and passed away. Another man is currently under critical condition. The fire is believed to be originated from the seventh floor of the building. The fire then quickly was caught on the electrical wiring and cables.
The details of the incident
After the fire broke out, the Mumbai fire department deployed 7 fire engines, five jumbo water tankers and many emergency vehicles to the area. The fire brigade officials climbed the windows, floors to evacuate the residents from the building. The fire was brought under control by the team till 4:30 pm and was finally exhausted by 6:10 pm. Several residents had gone unconscious due to heavy smoke and panic. The injured residents were taken to Rohit Hospital, Pragati hospital Northern Care hospital and Shatabdi hospital. The fire is believed to be broken out of short circuit in the building. As per the chief fire officer, Ravindra Ambulgekar, The fire started around 3 pm in the electric meter room in the basement of the building which further moved upwards in the above floors of the building.
All in all, 35 residents were rescued by the officials and 19 were injured due to the havoc and the fire. An old woman of 85 years died due to heavy injuries. MLA Manisha Chaudhary visited the affected are and helped the people of the building. The building had received occupation certificate in October 2024 and was a part of Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). As announced by fire fighting department, the fire extinguishers and equipments were not in a working condition. The escape routes and infrastructure of the building were also not practical.
